Recovery

My mom had had her anterior cervical discectomy with fushion yesterday. For those of you who have no idea what that means, I'll explain it as best I can in non-medical terms. Anterior cervical discectomy with fusion is an operation that relieves the pressure placed on nerves/the spinal cord by a herniated disc. Through a small incision near the front of the neck the surgeon removes the intervertebral disc to get to the compressed neural structures, then relieves the pressure by removing the source of the compression, and a bone graft is placed between the adjacent vertebrae. Mom's surgeon expected it to take 1.5 hours, but it took 2.5 instead. I spoke to her yesterday after surgery and this morning before she was to be discharged. She's now recovering at home.

I found out yesterday that my new digital camera has shipped from the store & should be to me very soon. I can't wait. I really was disappointed when I thought I wouldn't have it to play with during my parents annual July 4th bash.

We've also finally got our dates picked out to go to LA for New Years. It will be Joe's first trip to the West Coast. I think he'll have fun. I know that my nana is looking forward to meeting him for the first time. Also, the rest of my family out there is looking forward to seeing him again.
